As part of Phase Plant's 7th Anniversary, we are running the Seven Second Sound contest, and it is an easy one to jump into for anyone familiar with Phase Plant, or even someone just trialling it. Have a go, you might surprise yourself!
The idea is straightforward: make a Seven Second Sound using Phase Plant and send it to us.
It can be musical, weird, beautiful, brutal, subtle, rhythmic, textural, or hard to classify. The only real goal is to show what one Phase Plant patch can do. That could mean a short performance, a dramatic macro sweep, a loop, a sound effect, an evolving texture, or some other tiny piece of sonic mischief.
Make sure you read the simple instructions below to make sure you're in with a chance to win.
The Prizes
We will choose seven favorites, and each winner will receive:
- seven Kilohearts Content Banks of their choice
- a $70 coupon to spend on anything in our shop except subscriptions
How to Enter
- Create a Seven Second Sound using only Phase Plant
- Export an audio file and save the Phase Plant patch
- Submit both via the contest form
- Include a short note telling us what the patch is doing, if you like
If you want to post your entry on social media too, please do. We would love to see these out in the world, and it gives us more cool things to share during the anniversary celebrations.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for seven second examples that show Phase Plant doing something interesting within one patch. A great entry might show:
- a wide expressive range from one patch
- impressive movement and variation
- an unusual performance
- a strong musical or sound-design idea
In other words: make something sonically interesting.
Rules
- Your entry must use Phase Plant
- Do not use any plugins other than Phase Plant
- The audio example should be around seven seconds long. It does not need to be exactly seven seconds to count but it should be no more than one second shorter or longer.
- Submit your entry through the contest form
- Your submission should include both the audio clip and the Phase Plant patch
- One person can submit more than one entry, but please keep it reasonable
- By entering, you are giving us permission to repost or feature your entry in connection with the contest
Deadline
Entries are open now and will close at midnight CET Friday, June 12th, 2026.
Soon after that, we will pick our seven favorites, contact the winners by email, and share some of the highlights on our channels. It may take us a little time to work through the entries properly, but we will keep you updated on our progress.
Contest FAQ
Q: Does it have to be exactly seven seconds long?
A: No. Around seven seconds is fine. The spirit of the challenge matters more than stopwatch precision.
Q: Does it have to be a full song?
A: Definitely not. A loop, a patch performance, a transition, a sound effect, an evolving texture, or a strange little sonic moment are all valid.
Q: Does it have to be made with only one patch?
A: Yes. We want to see what kind of range and personality people can squeeze out of a single Phase Plant patch.
Q: Can I use effects outside Phase Plant?
A: No. Keep it to Phase Plant only. The point is to show what one patch can do on its own.
Q: Why do I need to send the patch as well as the clip?
A: Because we want to hear the result and see how you built it. This challenge is about what a single Phase Plant patch can do, so both parts matter.
Q: Do I need to post on social media to enter?
A: No. The official entry is through the form. Posting on social is optional, but encouraged.
Q: How will the winners be chosen?
A: Available members of the Kilohearts team will choose our seven favorite entries based on creativity, character, and how well they show Phase Plant in action.
Q: How will I know if I win?
A: We will contact winners via the email address used in the contest form.
Good luck!
