As part of the Phase Plant 6th Anniversary celebrations this year, we are running an exciting and challenging patch design contest and six winners will each receive a $60 coupon to spend on anything (except subscriptions) in our shop plus six Kilohearts Content Banks of their choice.

Phase Plant isn’t just for producing polished tracks. It’s also a powerful, expressive instrument. Whether you’re performing live, recording MIDI, or just exploring sounds in the studio, it shines as a playable synth in its own right. That’s the spirit behind this year’s preset design contest, with some constraints thrown in to make you think a little more outside the box.

We’re challenging you to create the most impressive patch you can using only six modules in each section. True sound design wizards know how to get creative with limitations, and this is your chance to prove it. We'll be judging based on both sound and playability, so we're looking for presets that are inspiring to play with a MIDI keyboard, not just programmable sound design masterpieces.

Here are the rules:

• Submit ONE Phase Plant preset only.
• Submit at least one performance example as a WAV or MP3 audio file.
• Use a maximum of SIX modules in the Generator section (including effects but not including outputs).
• Use a maximum of SIX modules in the Effects section.
• Use a maximum of SIX modules in the Modulation section.
• Make it customizable with up to SIX macros.
• Snap Heap and Multipass Snapins count towards the limits, as do any effects or modulators inside them.

Entries are now open and can be submitted via this form. The deadline is Friday, June 6th. Six winners will be carefully chosen, contacted via email to claim their prizes, and announced on our channels some time in the following couple of weeks.

Contest FAQ

Q: What if I don't own Phase Plant??!

A: No problem. If you don't have PP but still want to join in, you can grab a free, fully functional trial for ten days and have a go.

Q: Why do I have to submit an audio example?

A: Contest entries should be designed to be played. We can noodle a bit, but if you send an example of how you imagine your preset being used, that helps us judge it properly.

Q: What exactly is allowed in the Generator section?

A: You can use up to six generators or effects in the Generator section. Routers, outputs, and groups do not count towards the total.

Q: What exactly is allowed in the Effects section?

A: You can use up to six Snapins in the Effects section. Host Snapins like Snap Heap and Multipass count towards the total, as do any Snapins inside them. Groups do not count towards the total.

Q: What exactly is allowed in the Modulation section?

A: You can use up to six modulators. This includes any module except groups.

Q: Do I absolutely have to use macros?

A: No, but macros make presets more playable, so why wouldn’t you!

Q: How will I know if I've won?

A: If you are a winner, we will contact you via the email address submitted with your entry to notify you of your win and ask which Content Banks you would like as your prize.

Q: What can I use the prize coupon for if I win?

A: Winners will get a $60 coupon code to use in our shop. It can be used for any products except the Kilohearts Subscription. It will be consumed entirely upon use and no change will be given if the value of your cart is less than $60. The coupon can be combined with promotional discounts but cannot be combined with other coupons.

Q: What if I win but I already have all the Content Banks and Kilohearts plugins?

A: We cannot offer any alternative prizes, however, you are allowed to gift your prizes to a fellow musician in need. We can work this out when you win.
